Package Details and Information
Southwest Florida's Bays, Rivers And Shore. — Florida (FL) Package:2001029
From Marco Island south into the Everglades National Park, the unique waters of Southwest Florida's bays, rivers and near shore habitat offer some of the best fishing in the world.
You will travel through areas in a specially designed boat that can navigate these shallow waters and take you to remote areas seen by few and fished by even fewer.
In addition to good fishing, you'll have the opportunity to see manatee, dolphin, turtles and several of the 169 species of birds that inhabit this area.
In Southwest Florida, water temperature and tides dictate the time you should go fishing as well as the species you are likely to catch. Although you can hook into most of the fish that live in our waters all year long, there are some that are more plentiful during certain months. For example, sheephead, flounder, pompano and black drum are more likely to be caught when the water temperature is 75 degree or less whereas snook and especially tarpon prefer water temps over 75 degrees.
Our premier game fish in the southwest region of the state is snook and the ideal time to hunt this regal species is right after the spawn when the water temperature is between 75 and 85 degrees and this occurs in August, September, October and into the first part of November.

Location and Fishing Information
Southwest Florida's Bays, Rivers And Shore. - Backwater fishing, as opposed to going miles offshore where you lose sight of land, offers much more to see. It's always something new when you fish the bays, rivers and creeks surrounding the seemingly limitless Ten Thousand Island area. Although most of my customers are serious fishermen, I welcome newcomers to the sport and will gladly teach specialties such as fly casting.
Marco is the largest of the Ten Thousand Islands and the mangrove forest is the largest in the western hemisphere. Literally 500 yards from Walker's Coon Key Marina, which is my departure point, is the beginning of a National Wildlife Refuge that extends southeast to the northern boundary of the Everglades National Park. These islands formed at the end of the last ice age. When the polar caps refroze, the sea level fell, exposing limestone outcroppings that later became foliated and became the Ten Thousand Islands that we have today.
