We are a family run business providing catered accommodation in the stunning Rila Mountains of Bulgaria.

Commanding stunning views of the mountains, valleys and river our lodge is situated in the picturesque mountain village of Madjare just 100 metres from the Cerni Iskar river. Madjare nestles in a valley at the edge of the Rila Mountains the highest mountain range on the Balkan Peninsula, 70km from the vibrant Bulgarian capital of Sofia and 10km from the international ski resort of Borovets .

The accommodation comprises of 8 bedrooms (6 with en-suite shower rooms), lounge with TV and log fire, large dining area, kitchen, utility, boot/drying room and a basement storage area for sports equipment etc. To take advantage of the beautiful views every bedroom has access to a balcony and for our summer guests there is an outside terrace plus gardens with a bar-b-que area. The lodge has central heating throughout.

We cater for groups, families, couples or those of you who just want to get away from it all. Whatever your reason for visiting Bulgaria, if you love the outdoors we are confident we can provide you with a memorable, stress free holiday.

With the Cerni Iskar river only 100m from the lodge you don’t have to go far to start your fishing holiday. Within a further 5km you can fish in another two mountain tributaries of the river Iskar or with a short transfer to the villages of Raduil and Maritza you are now able to fish in a very young and lively River Maritza before the start of its long journey through the Plain of Thrace. Maybe your passion is not for fast running rivers and you would prefer a leisurely day in a boat in the centre of the Lake Iskar. At 16km long this is one of the biggest man made lakes in Bulgaria. For those who prefer to fish in colder waters we can arrange for guided expeditions to fish in the lakes high up in the mountains.

Within Bulgarian lakes and rivers there is excellent trout fishing, along with pike, carp and bream. Most of these fish are over 2kg and can be eaten or returned to the water. There are lots of other small fish species that can be caught for fun or food.

Fishing during the month of May is forbidden for all sweet water fish due to spawning. Salmon fishing in mountains from October to December is also banned. Harpooning in sweet water is not allowed in Bulgaria.

Fishes in Bulgaria:
1. Sweet/fresh water (Siluroides) – (Alburnus alburnus), grey mullet, chub (Mugil cephalos), carp (Cyprinos carpio), sheat-fish (Silarus glanus), (Perca fluviatilis), pike (Esox lucius), pike-perch (Stizostedion lucioperca), (Salmo trutta fario), (Salmo gairdneri irideus), (Salvelinus fontinalis). Most of these fishes are over 2kg and can be prepared and eaten or returned in water depends on wish. There are lots of small kind fishes for fun and food. Harpooning in sweet water is forbidden in Bulgaria. Forbidden time for fishing concerning spawning, month May for all sweet water fishes, only for (Salmo) in mountains Oct. to Dec. For anglers Black Sea (salt water) is allowed the whole year.

We offer two different accommodation packages depending on the needs of your party. The first is for the more independent groups who prefer to make their own way and only require a comfortable night’s sleep together with a hearty breakfast and then look after their own needs for the rest of the day. Therefore we can offer B&B for only £180 per person per week.

For those guests who prefer their holiday with all the organisational stress removed we can offer a more complete package that includes the following:
- Collection to/from Sofia airport.
- Welcome drinks/snacks.
- Bed/breakfast each day
- 3-course evening meal served with wine, beer and soft drinks for 6 days.
- On the one day an evening meal is not provided you will be transported to a local restaurant.
- Daily transport to/from your fishing location.
 
The cost for the more inclusive package is only £300 per person per week.

Daily rates are available for those guests planning on longer or shorter breaks.
