Wilderness Fishing Lodge
Northern Territory, Australia — Package: 4001169
Package Details and Information:
So You Like the Idea of fishing in a wilderness?
Maybe a Really "Wild Adventure or unique experience?"
Mixed, of course with a few creature comforts. Not too far from civilization,
say about twenty minutes in a plane. Maybe somewhere where
a local guide can show you places that cause you to say "Oohaaaah!
(and where you don't see another person all day).
Somewhere just outside mobile phone range?
You can still call home or the office each night?
Welcome!
Well that is what is available at our Lodge.
Located on Melville Island in the Tiwi Island Group.
With unspoiled fishing as it was 0ver 100 years ago.
Where the Barramundi, Reef and all fishing is good as it gets.
Where you can experience aboriginal culture
bush tucker, island exploring, traditional hunting
and the many other activities the Melville Island and the Tiwi people have to offer.
We offer a variety of packages, ranging from Fishing, Cultural, Eco and Hunting that provides an excellent balance and introduction to a people steeped in an ancient culture who really live in a true wilderness.
The tropical sports fishing fishing is what many people come for, and ranges from flats and sight fishing in areas that are virtually un-fished, reef fishing for the fabulous Black Jewfish and Golden Snapper to some newly emerging blue-water options in untested waters.
Munupi caters for the experienced sport fishing angler of every discipline, as well as those would would like to learn, right through to the casual "throw a line in" experience. Fly, lure and bait fishing are all catered for.
Quality fishing gear is supplied on a "replace if lost" basis, or you may wish to bring your own. All fishing is on a "catch and release" basis with only a few select fish taken for your meals. Its difficult to describe the options open to visiting anglers without running out of superlatives.
The fishing is sensational because of the environment in which you are invited to fish. Surrounded by such pristine beauty: spectacularly clear water, coral reefs, pristine white beaches devoid of footprints, and indeed any sign of human habitation. Rock-bars that inspire awe amongst the devoted angler, mile upon mile of red cliffs, and the whole area teeming with birds and indigenous wildlife.

Location and Fishing Information
Wilderness Fishing Lodge - We are located on the north eastern corner of the Apsley Straight, that awesome and historic stretch of water that separates Bathurst and Melville Islands.
Only 100kms north of Darwin, in Australia's Northern Territory, the lodge is owned by the aboriginal Tiwi People and has just re-opened under new management: locals Michael and David.
Michael is a long time resident of Pirlangimpi, with considerable first hand experience and understanding of local conditions and options. David, a descendant of the Malay Pearl Divers from Broome, has spent most of his life fishing and hunting in the Munupi area.
The Lodge is about 100 kilometres north of Darwin on Melville Island. It is strategically situated on the outskirts of Pirlangimpi, an Historic Aboriginal Tiwi settlement that can trace its history back hundreds of years prior to the settlement of Fort Dundas.
Pirlangimpi, also known as Garden Point, is a town of about 250, and provides a focal point for the surrounding outstations and such diverse businesses as eco tourism, forestry and a thriving fish farming industry.
"The Lodge" was originally built as the clubhouse for the local golf course back in the mid eighties, and its ensuing survival through several cyclones testifies to the design of the structure.
Quite simply, the fishing is just sensational! That's not just because you are fishing in a very lightly fished area, packed with all the sought-after tropical species such as Barramundi, Threadfin Salmon, Blue Salmon, Golden Trevally, Queenfish, Golden Snapper, Mangrove Jacks, Black Jewfish, Grunter and a host of others.
Testimonials:
The Lodge in the Northern Territory is a great all rounder for sensational food and a huge fishing variety. The areas flats barra and threadfin sight fishing is outstanding and so are the stocks of black jewfish.

Thanks for a fabulous weekend at your Lodge. The fishing was superb and I have to say that Rex Hunt was right about it being Australia's premier fishing spot. Also, having trained and lectured in customer service for many years, even I had something to learn from your operation. No amount of training can substitute for a genuine desire to build rapport with your guests and to understand and exceed your customers expectations and at Munupi, you do all exceptionally well.
I wish you all the best of success in the future and look forward to another (hopefully longer) trip to your amazing location.

"Just a few words from the Danish school teachers as a big "thank you" for an unforgettable stay at your magnificent lodge. We enjoyed the cozy cabin very much, and were stunned by the surroundings. Great hospitality, lazy black bears and big Coho's on the fly all in all made a huge impression."
