Lake Rotorua luxury lodge accommodation.
This 2003/4 Tourism award-winning lodge is a beautifully appointed lodge offering luxury accommodation, right on the edge of Lake Rotorua. Hosts Margaret and Tony, both New Zealanders, spent years searching for their ultimate location before finding the lodge sited amidst rose gardens and lawns with its magnificent views over lake Rotorua. The love and attention to detail they have lavished on the Lodge is evident in every aspect, from the use of luxurious rich cream tones, carefully chosen furnishings and artwork in the rooms creating an air of calm and serenity, to the menus especially created by resident Michelin-trained chef, Silvio Sakrzewski.
The Lodge won the New Zealand Tourism Award for Outstanding Hosted Accommodation in 2003/4, was awarded the 2005 New Zealand Beef and Lamb Hallmark of Excellence, is a member of Select Hotels & Resorts International, is a member of the New Zealand Lodge Association, and is 5 star Qualmark rated.
The Lodge has been voted by New Zealand Travel USA in the “Top 10 Award Winners” for accommodation in New Zealand as voted by their travelers in 2004, this is the second consecutive year the lodge has received this award.
Although situated in an oasis of calm, we are only a 5 minute drive from Rotorua city centre, and a 15 minute ride from the cities’ airport.
For visitors who’d rather not leave the haven of the lodge, there are plenty of recreational activities to enjoy with on-site activities including swimming, a sauna, petanque, croquet, lake cruises and even a private Maori cultural concert performance on the lawns*. Three eighteen-hole golf courses are also located nearby.
For those who like to explore further afield, an air safari will whisk you to the landscapes that made NZ world-famous including the region’s famed volcanoes and wild ‘Lord of the Rings’ scenery. A special ‘extra’, is the float plane that lands on Lake Rotorua to collect you directly from the lodge’s private jetty and take you to either White Island or on a trip to see the scenic sights of the region. Helicopter sightseeing on arrival & departure from the property can also be arranged and a heli-pad is on site.
The jetty also provides the starting point for another signature Kawaha Lodge experience, fishing for the lake’s famed rainbow trout with Blair or Murray Watson. Both renowned fishermen and local guides, they will take you to the best fishing spots and ultimately your catch can be vacuum packed, served for dinner or even mounted!

Location and Fishing Information
Lakeside Luxury Lodge - Kawaha Point
Kawaha Point is an important headland on to Lake Rotorua and was chosen as an early settlement by Maori. Close to the shores were fishing villages and further up on the headland was a fortified pa. As the most efficient transport was by canoe, the views gave resident tribes security by being aware of any warriors or visitors arriving by water. Remnants of this early Maori civilisation are still evident and the rock-strewn headland still has the grassy trenches and ramparts of this ancient pa.
Rotorua
Originally discovered in the 14th century, Rotorua is the cultural heart of the Maori.
Early settlers made use of the thermal areas for boiling water, thus eliminating the need to use fire for cooking or heating, and to this day, urban Rotorua is still constructed around these sites.
Rotorua is also called the ‘Natural Spa City of the South Pacific’. Famous for the healing powers of its waters, visitors travel from all over the world to bathe in the natural hot thermal mineral spas and enjoy the relaxing and tranquil ambiance.
