The Twelve-day "Mahseer Maharaja Fly-fishing Expedition"

The trip is our "top of the line" and "great value for money" fly-fishing adventure, few fishing expeditions in the world could match up to. Within the perfect setting of the Grand Himalayas and on some of the most pristine and remote sections of rivers in India, this expedition aims at getting you there at just the perfect time along with fly-fishing guide Misty Dhillon, using some of his unique patterns and techniques for some heady fly-fishing experiences.

The trip has two sections (venues) for two different times of the year, taking you to the perfect fly-fishing conditions with the ideal guides for the job.

The expedition is based on added adventures of mild trekking to virgin areas and rafting down some of the finest sections of rivers, to get you to the best waters for fly-fishing for the Mighty Mahseer. This trip is a "fly-fishing adventure of a lifetime".

In order to maintain standards on the trip, we limit this expedition to three anglers, non-angling partners are welcome to join this trip and there is plenty of adventure for even someone not particularly fond of fishing. The trip has the flexibility ever fishing trip should have hence increasing the chances making it a memorable experience.

Devprayag is where the River Ganges begins, after the convergence of the Alaknanda and the Bhagirathi tributaries, and is also where we start our expedition. Our team will meet the guests on the banks of the river - where the expedition begins. Each member of the expedition will be provided with gear that will be required for the trip. After a short briefing from your river guide we will begin the expedition down the river in 16' rafts to access the most lucrative beats on the river. Packed lunches will be provided as we take a break on one of the pristine sand beaches. We will be rafting down stream to the famous Byas Ghat beat, the confluence of the Nayar stream with the Mighty Ganges River; this is where John Bailey and Paul Boot shot the famous "Casting for Gold" documentary back in 1989.

We will reach the beat at approximately. 1500 hrs. After everybody settles into tents soon after which we will start fishing at Byas Ghat.

2nd October 2005: Spend the day fishing at Byas Ghat. The Nayar is a crystal clear rivulet, which runs into the mighty Ganges - it is at this point where some of the larger Mahseer have been caught.

There's good fly-fishing in the Nayar, all along this section, at the confluence the fly-fishing is excellent, you will catch many Mahseer here - especially at this time of the year. We will spend the whole day exploring this beat. The anglers will be driven up along the Nayar rivulet to explore even more of the finer beats further upstream.

This is a great time of the year to be doing this expedition as after the monsoons the countryside is at its very best.

"The best single day's fishing I have had! I had an 89lb Mekong on within minutes of starting fishing. My arms didn't get much of a rest with another 10 or so big Cats coming to the net, with the best being the last fish of the day: a magnificent 95lb Mekong, which provided an epic fight. I'll be back!"
