Package Details and Information:
We are a boat rental company totally dedicated to boat tours and fishing in the waters of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The waters in Rio are filled with a wide variety of fish and marvelous places to visit, allowing for many different fishing styles. Have an unforgettable day fishing, learning to fish, or touring with your friends.
Bottom fishing with natural bait:
This fishing style, close to the shore, takes place especially on the coastal rocks, on rocky bottoms and over some slabs 10 to 50 meters deep. It's possible to catch good fish such as Black Grouper, Brown Grouper, Snook, Red Snapper, Blue Snapper, Red-fish, Catfish, etc. We can use a sardine or a shrimp as lures, but fresh squid and tatuí (a little crustacean from Brazil) work just as well because they are more difficult baits smaller fish to steal. The material used shouldn't exceed 12 pounds test lines and the fishing rod should not exceed 2.10 meters so as to facilitate handling inside the boat.
Away from the shore, 20 miles out, for instance, it's possible to catch the big Brown Groupers, Giant Snappers, Namorados, Amberjacks, small sharks, etc. These fishing trips take place above rocky bottoms and slabs 50 to 200 meters deep and we use chunks of tuna, whole squids, whole sardines, and so on. Generally the materials used are electrical reels because they facilitate reeling-in in great depths multifilament lines, which are thinner but more resistant, ensuring minimal friction against currents, 400 to 1000 grams weights and large reels and bait casting reels.
Bottom fishing with live baits:
One of the most productive fishing styles done near the coast in Rio. It takes place in depths of 10 to 40 meters and usually shrimp is used as lure, though it's also possible to use small sardines and squid. When fishing with shrimp, especially above slabs and rocky bottoms, one may catch Red-fish, Bonefish, Grouper, Snook, Weakfish and so on.
This style of fishing, though it may seem surprising, should be done with 12 pound lines maximum so the fish can't see the line and also to avoid friction against the water, which makes fishing difficult on fast tides. It’s also possible to use squid on the coastal rocks and catch great Lesser amberjack, Atlantic Big-Eye, and so on. But the materials used here are thicker lines and in some cases, even iron leaders.
TROLLING
This is one of the most exciting fishing style, always reserving big surprises. One may catch a great variety of fish, such as anchovies, tuna, square head dolphin, Atlantic Big eye and so on. Many different types of bait can be used: Rapalas, spoon, jigs and in some cases dead or live lures such as squid to capture big fish like Atlantic Big eye and Lesser Amberjack. These are characteristics of fishing trips that took place near the coast and the islands of Rio de Janeiro. The appropriate material varies a lot according to the type of fishing. However, in order to troll anchovies, blue runner and tuna we use 12 pound lines maximum.
For the offshore trolling from 10 miles of distance and beyond, it becomes necessary to use tougher material. 60, 70 and 80 pound lines and bait casting reels and more robust rods are used because fish like Blue Marlin may weight up to 500 kg. At this distance you may also find the big square heads dolphin, Sailfish, Yellow Tuna, Albacore, Wahoo, Swordfish and so forth. Generally, we use natural, dead baits such as ballyhoo and big artificial lures.
CASTING AND FLY FISHING
Another very exciting fishing style practiced along the island coasts and also when the fish is found between the islands and the coast. It consists of fishing with a still boat and casting artificial lures. Anchovies, blue runner, pompano, blue fish, saw fish among other fish are captured. The material used may be 10 to 14 pound lines, according to the fisherman's skills.
