Fishing for Trout

Fishing for Trout - A one day course (approx 5 hours). For example; days guiding to remote wild trout lochs OR a day on the river OR a days instruction in trout fishing for complete beginners on local lochs. Loch bank permits included, river permits extra, some tackle hire included.

This is the home of Loch Style angling and Lesley will be happy to show you this technique which normally involves working a cast of two or three flies on a light carbon fibre rod capable of casting across strong winds 9 - 10ft is the norm.

Bring matching floating line (normally WF7) and 4lbBS nylon. We also use dry fly and nymphs especially on shallower lochs and some rivers, again with floating line.

You can bring an intermediate line if you wish but the chances are it will not be used

Essential items of Kit:

Lightweight kit, do not weigh yourself down with heavyweight gear, there can be a long walk involved to reach the water and then to fish around it.

Thigh waders. Wading is common practise on many of our shallower wild trout lochs.

Fishing vest with all your accoutrements in it.

A cross section of flies wet, dry and nymph in size 10 to 16.

Sunglasses.

Midge repellent and possibly one of those bug nets if its July/August.

A good quality lightweight waterproof.

A hat which does not blow off!

Some of the most successful traditional patterns used in the Northern highlands have rarely altered since they first came into use long hence. Invictas, Zulu's and Soldier Palmers are just as productive as they were one hundred years ago and you should always have some of these in size 10 and 12 along with Kate McLaren, Pennels, Hares Ear, Green Drake and the excellent Bumble range

Cost per person or group of up to 4 anglers fishing. £85.00  All packages normally 1 - 4 persons attending, larger numbers by prior arrangement. Remember we will devise a package exactly to your requirements, if you only have a couple of hours to spare we can usually arrange some instruction or guiding to fit in (one days notice normally required).
