Fly Fishing Patagonia
Chile — Package: 6001384
Package Details and Information:
Fishing is abundant in the river and in the area...
The Baker River is probably one of the best... to fish Rainbow trout from three to eight lbs. Sometimes you can catch beautiful Fario fish of a great size. At dusk, it’s always a great pleasure to watch incredible numbers of marvelous trout jumping on the shores of the islets and banks. During the season they feed or move just a few metres from the boats or fishermen.
The water is so crystal-clear that it also allows easy observation of the quarrels between the males and females spawning on the shores during the reproduction season.
It is possible to practice trolling, spinning or fly fishing.
Due to the control and management of this river by State Organizations and Universities, the fishing season is open from the second Friday of October until the first Sunday of May. It is recommended to carry out “catch and release”, i.e. return the trout back to the river carefully.
We also offer fishing trout and salmon in other southern rivers, lagoons and lakes.
It is necessary to have a valid fishing license.
Other activities include...
1- Tours
- With a light plane for five passengers over the beautiful glaciers of the Northern Ice Fields and the San Rafael lagoon (glaciers) - one hour.
- On a pickup truck or on a minibus you can visit the picturesque Tortel village with it’s cypress wood trails (ne or two days)
- On a motorboat to the natural marble ‘cathedral’ at Puerto Tranquilo (stunning marble caverns that rise from the waters) - one day
2- Trekking in the zone with experts
3- Horse riding of one to several days with experienced guides of the zone through the mountain range.
4- Canoeing, kayaking and Rafting
5- Visits Fossils
6- Free Mountain bikes available.

Fly Fishing Patagonia - The Lodge is situated in the stunning Chilean Patagonia.
- At about 1.000 miles as the condor flies, South of Santiago.

-.On the banks of the Baker River, outlet of the immense General Carrera Lake,
-.Location: South: 47° 02’ 32,7 West: 72° 49’ 10.3
To get to the Lodge, a spectacular two and a half hour national flight; Santiago- Puerto Montt -Balmaceda must be taken (Balmaceda is the airport in Coyhaique).

From Balmaceda or Coyhaique, go south towards Cochrane, past the village of Cerro Castillo leaving Bahía Murta on your left, past Puerto Tranquillo, cross the Baker River bridge until the first junction. Leaving the village of Guadal on your left, take the right towards Puerto Bertrand-Cochrane.
After Puerto Bertrand in that direction, 2 miles from this last village, you arrive to the Lodge on your right, on the banks of the Baker River.
The trail skirts around a number of gorgeous and majestic rivers (River Ibañez, Manso, Murta, Engaño in among others). Lakes and lagoons of several colours (Lake General Carrera, Lake Verde, Lake Negro to name a few), snowcapped hills like Mount Castillo, picturesque villages like Cerro Castillo and Puerto Tranquilo.
Once at the Lodge, you will enjoy the extraordinary scenery, similar in many ways to Alaska or extreme Northern Europe, the majestic and mighty River Baker with stunning blue glaciers in the background and surrounded by the evergreen coigue trees.
On the way you can see a huge amount of wild birds like Black Necked Swans, ducks, The Red Correntino Duck, hundreds of geese like the Cauquenes, Condors, etc... and many different animals like the docile Huemuls(deer like)by the road
within the National Park of the same name, hares abruptly crossing the road, large herds of guanacos (llama like) near Cochrane, foxes and a multitude of birds
You can also observe a variety of colourful flora like Calafates with its beautiful yellow-orange flowers in Spring, The Notros or Red Ciruelillos, the colorful Lupino in summer, the immense orangey and purple Lenga forests in autumn, the Nalcas with their giant leaves and purple flowers and throughout the year, the Chilcos or Fuchsias with their beautiful red bells.

"I have been fishing with Capt. Matt for over six years now and keeping coming back for more. Capt. Matt is one of the best guides I have ever fished with; he works hard and you catch fish, but as importantly Capt Matt teaches you about the places you are fishing and provides good conversation and company. I would recommend him in a heartbeat to anyone who is a light tackle or fly angler enthusiast and wants to have a great day on the water!"
