Location and Fishing Information

Spearfishing In Bulgaria - The Bulgarian Black Sea Coast covers the whole eastern bound of Bulgaria. Black Sea Coast beaches occupy approximately 130 km of the 378 km coast.
The area's average air temperature in the summer is about 28°C, with the average water temperature at 25°C. There are more than 240 hours of sunshine in May and September and more than 300 hours in July and August.
The Balkan Mountains cross the country reaching to the edge of the Black Sea, dividing the coastline into a southern and northern part. Parts of Bulgaria's northern Black Sea Coast feature rocky headlands where the sea abuts cliffs up to 70 meters in height. The southern coast is known for its wide sandy beaches.
The largest city on Bulgarian Black Sea Coast is Varna (also the third largest city in Bulgaria), located on the northern part of the coast.

Additional info:
Black Sea lies to the east of Bulgaria. Besides Bulgaria, other countries that circle the Black Sea are: Turkey, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, and Georgia. It's connected to the Sea of Marmara with the Bosphorus strait in the southwest. Some of the important ports on the Black Sea are: Varna, Burgas, Istanbul, Trabzon, Constanza, Yalta, Odessa, Sevastopol, Kerch, Novorossiysk, Poti and Batumi.

Black Sea is an inland sea covering an area of about 420thousand square kilometers reaching at 2206 meters in its deepest point. Below 200 meters the oxygen level in the water is very low so marine life is very limited below this depth. Its waters are warm in the summer, cold in the winter. Its salinity is around 0,18% because of a constant inflow of fresh water from rivers surrounding it, the excess water flows on the surface through the Bosphorus meanwhile the warm and salty waters of the Mediterranean reach the Black Sea with deep water currents, maintaining the stratification and salinity levels. The biggest river flowing into the Black Sea is the Danube from north east.

Most popular species for spearfishing in the Black Sea are: Golden Gray Mullet (Mugil Auratus), Flathead Mullet (Mugil Cephalus), So-iuy Mullet (Mugil Soiuy), Leaping Mullet (Mugil Saliens), Sand Sole (Solea Lascaris), Flounder (Platichthys Flesus Luscus), Common Stingray (Dasyastis Pastinaca), Black Sea Turbot (Scophthalmus Maximus Maeoticus), Gobiidae family and European Seabass (Dicentrarchus Labrax) also known as Sea Wolf - the most desirable fish to catch!

Hotels, hostels, guest-houses, campings, bungalows, etc.

"The best single day's fishing I have had! I had an 89lb Mekong on within minutes of starting fishing. My arms didn't get much of a rest with another 10 or so big Cats coming to the net, with the best being the last fish of the day: a magnificent 95lb Mekong, which provided an epic fight. I'll be back!"
