Risfjordelva - Risfjord River

-A Gem of a River.

Risfjordelva is located on the peninsula Nordkyn, Even after Finnmark standards it's quite far away. If you want to go someplace wild this is the place, it's definitely one of the most remote places in Europe. There are no real trees out there (1 hour drive north of Europe's northernmost forest) the winters are simply to harsh.

The summers can be quite unforgiving, but there are those days when the sun is shining 24 hours a day, you can walk around in your boxers and the dramatic scenery of Nordkyn and the excellent fishing in Risfjordelva will make a life lasting impression on you.

Risfjordelva (Risfjord River) is definitely the best river for arctic char in Finnmark. We would say even in Norway. Around midsummer the river is literally boiling of the silver coloured beauties when big shoals fight their way upwards from the sea to the lake.

What's not very well known is that Risfjordelva also hold a quite substantial amount of salmon and sea trout.

The arctic char holds a good size and 3,5 pound specimens is a regular occurrence. The 5-6 pound char is certainly within reach for the patient angler. In spite of the relatively small size if the river Risfjordelva offers salmon in the size of 20-25 pound every year.

Risfjordelva is a river you fish with single-handed rods, usually in #5-6 or even a little more delicate. But there is an overhanging risk getting that 10 pound salmon even on a small nymphs or a size 10 dryfly. Guess that's the charm of this little beauty of river.

At Risfjord and Sandfjord we accommodate in a traditional Sami Lavo. It's a tent looking much like the Indians Tipi. Despite the sound of it it's very comfortable.

The season starts 1st July and ends 15th of August.
