FISHING SCHEDULE
We fly from Ulaanbaatar (UB) to Murun (provincial capital of Hovsgol province) on a scheduled domestic flight and then continue to the river by jeep. The 8-day tour out of Ulaanbaatar will allow us six days of fishing.  The trip price includes two nights in Ulaanbaatar with half-a-day guided sightseeing.

Outline itinerary:
Day 1 Arrive in UB.  Met at the airport by our representative.  
Transfer to comfortable Hotel.
Day 2 Transfer to Airport, fly to Murun (1 1/2 hrs); depart by jeep for fishing trip. Arrive at the camp, briefing and evening fishing.
Day 3 Taimen Fishing
Day 4 Taimen Fishing
Day 5 Taimen Fishing
Day 6 Taimen Fishing
Day 7 Taimen Fishing
Day 8 Taimen Fishing; depending on current flight schedules drive back to Murun in the evening
Day 9 Fly from Murun to UB. Met at airport, transfer to Hotel.  Half day sightseeing or souvenir shopping depending on the domestic flight schedule.
Day 10 Transfer to airport.  Return flights.

There are many good Taimen pools within easy reach of our camps.  From the camps we will walk the banks or drive out by jeep to good Taimen pools, fishing from the bank and wading.  From the rocky banks and boulders we can often sight Taimen in the crystal clear water.  Many Taimen are caught on dry-flies. TAIMEN CONSERVATION - CATCH & RELEASE
Unlike salmon, Taimen dont migrate to the ocean, and as a long-lived species and the top predator in the aquatic food chain it is essential that Taimen caught are returned so that healthy Taimen populations are conserved for the future.  We fish different pools and locations through the season to ensure the Taimen are not over-fished.  

MONGOLIA TRAVEL
The fishing trip can be taken in 10 or 11 days from Europe or the US, we can arrange a day or two sightseeing in and around Ulaanbaatar at the end of your trip, or a three or four day extension to another area of Mongolia to make a two week trip.
Fly to Ulaanbaatar via Berlin, Seoul, Beijing, Osaka or Moscow on scheduled international flights.  

Jeep transport is by utilitarian Russian-made UAZ jeeps or 4WD minibuses.

FISHING GROUP SIZE
Scheduled departures are limited to six rods. A minimum of 3 persons is required to run the tour. Non-fishing companions are welcome. Maximum 2 additional rods for guest guides, agents or journalists.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
In addition to fishing, horse riding, hiking and bird-watching are possible; non-fishing companions will find plenty to do. We also organise wilderness treks and expeditions in Mongolia. and can arrange tour extensions to other parts of Mongolia.

The average sized Taimen are around 28 to 30 inches long (70 - 80 cm) and 10 to 12 lbs.  There will be many opportunities at trophy Taimen over 40 inches (100 cm).

to explore in a stunning river valley and canyon.  The river has fantastic wading with a rocky or gravel bed, lots of interest and structure, and many cliffs and Taimen pools.

MONGOLIA TAIMEN FISHING CAMPS
We have two privately leased locations for our camps, with agreements for fishing on over 100km of river.  The accommodation in the camp is in traditional gers (yurts) - the fishing programme can include two nights camping at a fly-camp. The cosy gers are equipped with wood burning stoves and comfortable cot-beds. The camp has hot showers and a great cook.

Our June trips are timed to take advantage of excellent early-summer fishing when the Taimen are feeding voraciously.  Late August and early September are also good times to take this trip.
