Location and Fishing Information
Smallmouth Bass and Largemouth Bass Fishing - The John Day River is a wild and scenic river located in the unique high desert region of Eastern Oregon.
It runs through seven sparsely populated counties - Grant, Umatilla, Jefferson, Wheeler, Sherman, Wasco, and Gilliam - before finally emptying into the mighty Columbia.
Long the recreational playground of the "locals," the John Day offers visitors:
Solitude
Wildlife viewing (deer, beaver, otters, eagles, ducks, geese, hawks, coyotes, bighorn sheep)
Scenery (basalt canyons, rock formations, rolling hills, awe-inspiring sunsets)
History (Indian writings, old homesteads)
Brief stretches of rolling rapids followed by relaxing drifts
Amazing water clarity
Stretches of beach ideal for swimming and camping
Bird hunting for upland birds and waterfowl
Summer/Spring runs of wild Steelhead
GREAT fishing for Smallmouth bass!
The following is a list of things to consider when choosing us as your John Day River guide service:
Experienced guides, some have grown up on the John Day River. Steve Fleming has been fishing and hunting in the area since 1968.
We guide exclusively on the John Day River. All out trips are spent fishing and learning, just the John Day River.
Our trips start early in the morning and spend a minimum of 10 hours on the water, fishing.
Great trophy "catch and release" record, our clients entered in the "In-Fishermen Master Angler Program" (20"minimum for smallmouth) every year.
Provide quality poles, reels, and all the tackle to produce a quality trip and trophy fish.
Can provide services for large numbers of people, plus an awards ceremony to make the trip even more memorable (great corporate fish catching trips).
We sell out each year with over 50% returning clientele each year, and lots of references.
We employ "C.P.R." fishing ethics, "Catch, Photograph, and Release".
We are licensed, bonded, insured, and registered with the BLM to do trips on the John Day River.

"Alaska fishing and wildlife is incredible! I’ve fished many parts of the world and nothing has compared or been as exciting as my trip on the Alagnak River. The rainbow and sockeye salmon were abundant. The wildlife and scenery was truly amazing. We saw at least 30 bear that week on the Alagnak, as well as eagle and moose."
