Day 1: Zululand Transit
Departing early from Durban, "The Sunshine Coast", we head north into Zululand, the area once ruled by the infamous Shaka. Zululand is renowned for its thick lush bush and numerous nature reserves, teeming with game. We spend tonight in the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi National Park. D
Day 2: Hluhluwe Nat. Park
The Hluhluwe-Umfolozi National Park is legendary for its pioneering work in the reestablishment of the Southern Africa rhino population, and the prolonged survival of the species. Today is spend game viewing within the Park, host to the Big 5. With its abundance of mammal and bird species, Hluhluwe-Umfolozi National Park is a South African success story. BLD
Day 3: Swaziland / Mozambique
After an early start, we head north through the peaceful Kingdom of Swaziland into Mozambique. We pass through the capital, Maputo, before continuing north to Chidinguele, our camp for the night. On route we pass many local villages and spectacular lakes running parallel to the coast. We arrive late in the afternoon, cresting the last sand dune, with a view of the spectacular Indian Ocean and the endless treasures it holds for the avid fisherman. Tonight we eat in the local restaurant (OE). BL
Day 4 to 7: Pomene Fishing Ski Adventure
Rising with the sun, we depart after a light breakfast. Our journey today takes us further up the Mozambique coast. We stop briefly in the former trade center of Inhambane. Here we have time to stock up with essentials and explore the local markets, before heading on to Pomene, our camp for the next four nights. Our camp is situated on a thin peninsular of beach, with perfect access to pristine fishing waters. The next three days are spent fishing the offshore reefs from custom built fishing skis, in the company of your professional guide. Cuta, queen fish, numerous king fish species and sailfish are some of the species targeted. One meal will be at the camp restaurant (OE). Scuba diving (OE) is available with the local dive master. Day 8: Transit to Bartholomew Diaz
With a tan and some stiff limbs we leave our camp early to make our way up the coast to BD, our camp for the next four nights. On route we will take time to walk around the local markets of Inhassoro. Our camp is situated on the banks of a pristine estuary, completely wild, with no formal ablutions or infrastructure of any kind. Permission is granted by the local chief for us to camp on his land. BLD
Day 9 to 11: BD Estuary Fishing
Our three full days here are spent fishing the mangroves, up to 10km up the river, as well as the estuary mouth and, if weather permitting, exploring some of the surrounding islands. Grunter, kingfish, pick handle barracuda, snapper and salmon are some of the species targeted in these unexploited waters. Angling is carried out with light bait casting tackle and fly fishing tackle. BLD
Day 12: Manica
After packing up our camp, we bid farewell to these productive waters and head east to Manica. Chicamba Lake, nestled at the foot of the Vumba Mountains, is our camp for tonight. Supper is enjoyed in the camp restaurant (OE). BL
Day 13: Buffalo Downs
A long day today, we cross the border into Zimbabwe and head in a north westerly direction to our overnight camp at Buffalo Downs, situated close to the Zambezi Escarpment. Tonight we enjoy a hearty farm meal whilst discussing tactics for fishing the mighty Zambezi River, and experience Zimbabwe hospitality at its best. BLD
Day 14 to 17: Zambezi Fishing and Game
Descending the short distance down the Zambezi Escarpment into the Urungwe Safari Area we head to our rustic camp on the Zambezi River. This is to be our home for the next four nights. Our days are spent on the River, fishing off motorized boats we target tigerfish, bream, nkupi, chessa and vundu. Hippopotamus, elephants and buffalo are regularly encountered, and make for a truly magical fishing experience. We will enjoy traditional braai's (barbeques) on the banks of the Zambezi and get to learn about African fauna and flora, whilst doing what we love, fishing! BLD
Day 18 to 19: Mana Pools Nat. Park
After a relaxed start, we head the short distance to the celebrated Mana Pools National Park, situated on the banks of the Zambezi River. We camp wild here for the next two nights. The road conditions determine speed, and we can expect to arrive in the late afternoon. Our time here is spent exploring the area extensively, both on foot and from the vehicle. Here we will gain insight into the art of tracking and stalking animals on foot, whilst at the same time gaining invaluable awareness into the intricacies of the African bush and its animals. BLD
Day 20: Lion Breeding Center
Leaving the wilderness of Mana Pools, we travel back up the escarpment today. Our camp tonight is at a private lion breeding center. The afternoon is spent getting to know these magnificent creatures. Supper is an own expense (OE) meal. BL
Day 21 to 22: Antelope Park
A long day today we continue heading south through Zimbabwe stopping 400km short of the South African border. Our camp for the next two nights is the fantastic Antelope Park. Antelope Park offers some of the finest fresh water fishing available in southern Africa, species targeted here are large mouth bass and both nilotica and robustus bream. Apart from angling Antelope Park offers a myriad of alternative activities, these include walking with lions, elephant back game viewing and horseback riding amongst many. BLD
Day 23: Transit
An early start this morning, we pack up camp and continue south into South Africa. The tour finishes on arrival in JHB in the late afternoon. B
Tackle requirements:
Tourette Fishing can supply tackle if needed. We recommend light spinning tackle and heavier bait casting tackle. Fly fishing outfits from 8 to 10wht, floating intermediate and fast sinking lines. All terminal tackle will be supplied; lost tackle will be charged for.
