Yakima River For Wild Rainbow Trout - Full day float trip for 1 or 2 anglers.

The Yakima River slowly meanders its way from its headwaters near Cle Elum towards Yakima well over 50 miles away. The stretch known best to fly anglers is from Easton Dam to Roza Dam which in 1990 and 1991 was designated as a barbless, artificial and catch and release wild trout fishery.

This stretch of river flows slowly through beautiful canyon sections and farmland continually reminding anglers of the beauty of this sport we love. The Yakima is now open to fly-angling all year and offers the best river dry fly and nymph fishing for wild rainbows in the state for the majority of that time.

Beginning in March, the Golden stonefly starts to make its way towards the banks marking the start ofte dry fly season. These stoneflies will generally be around until sometime in April when caddis begin to hatch. During this time, turning 30 fish a day on dry flies is seldom a surprise.

The caddis are around in one form or another on the Yak until sometime in late October or early November. Along with these more recognizable hatches are a host of others including a strong baetis, several different drakes and PMD's through July.

For the more willing and weather tolerant angler, midges and chironomids can be successfully fished throughout the winter. Streamers stripped or swung slowly through deeper lies will also move large wild trout up to 24 inches during the winter season.

In short, there is good fishing nearly the entire year on the Yakima with enough of a variance in hatches to make your experience educational and memorable.
