Fishing Lake Ontario & The Niagara Bar

At the mouth of the Niagara River, where it meets Lake Ontario, lies the Niagara Bar. The best year round, multi-species fishery in New York and quite possibly the World! After their spawning runs the Brown & Lake Trout typically drop back to this bar, to recuperate and put on the feed bag. This makes for some of the best Trout Fishing in the world. 15-20 fish (mixed bag of Lakers, Browns, Steelhead and occasional King or Coho) per day, per person  averaging 8-12 pounds are the norm from November until April when the water warms above their liking.  

This is a  hands on  fishing experience of drifting live bait, kwickfish, hair and tube jigs  on light tackle. With some fish surpassing 20 pounds, your arms will be tired at days end and you'll can't wait to come back for more! At present time I don't offer trolling, but the spring salmon & trout trolling off the Niagara Bar is the Best on the Lake, most of the spring Derby entrees come from Wilson to the Bar.

The Niagara bar is well known for its fantastic salmon and trout fishing. Now the bass fishing, starting in June thru September is equally as awesome. Catching 25-30+ Smallmouths, averaging 1-2½ pounds is common, with a good shot at a 4 or 5 pounder or a huge Walleye in the  8-10+ pound range. This is another great fishery  to ing kids or someone who just wants to catch lots of fish!

What should I bring?

Valid New York State fishing license. Camera (I practice C-P-R, Catch, Photo & Release!), sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, appropriate clothing for predicted weather, seasickness medicine (if needed), food and drinks.  If you have a favorite rod and reel bring it along too.

Smallmouth Bass: May-June and Oct-Nov for Trophies,
June-September for numbers (a great time for kids)
King Salmon: September - October
Lake Trout:  November - April
Steelhead:   November - April
Walleye:   May - August
Musky:  June and October-November

Full Day - 7 hours

Charters are one guide and boat for two people. $100 each additional person, to a maximum of 4 people. Can arrange trips for larger or corporate group outings at a discount.
