Location and Fishing Information
Guided Atlantic Salmon Fishing - The River Alness runs into the Cromarty Firth at Alness, Ross-shire, just 20 miles north of Inverness, the capital of the Highlands. Inverness Airport has direct flights from London Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton, Glasgow and Edinburgh, and the city also has direct rail services from throughout the UK.
The area is one of outstanding natural beauty, with plenty of things to see and do other than the great fishing. There are many notable places to visit within a 45 minute drive including Inverness and Loch Ness, Royal Dornoch Golf Course, the Glenmorangie Distillery and numerous castles.
The River Alness runs for just 19km from Loch Morie to the Cromarty Firth. Despite its short length, the scenery changes dramatically as the river descends from mountains and open moorland to woodland and gorges on the lower beats.
We fish the private waters belonging to Novar Estate, and there are 6 beats in all. We fish a different beat each day ensuring a varied experience.
The main runs of salmon and grilse start in late June, and continue through to the end of the season in October. The main sea trout runs are in June and July.
Fishing is by fly only, using both single and double-handed rods. All tackle can be provided.

"I have been fishing with Capt. Matt for over six years now and keeping coming back for more. Capt. Matt is one of the best guides I have ever fished with; he works hard and you catch fish, but as importantly Capt Matt teaches you about the places you are fishing and provides good conversation and company. I would recommend him in a heartbeat to anyone who is a light tackle or fly angler enthusiast and wants to have a great day on the water!"
