The Fishery is privately owned and totals 1.2 miles.  

The Bandon River flows through The Estate which totals 240 acres of park and agricultural land. There are ten named salmon pools. There are also excellent stocks of wild own trout which average 12ozs with over 1lbs not unusual.

The season opens on the 1st of March and closes on the 30th of September. Fishing for salmon is fly only. Trout fishing is fly only on the whole of the Bandon river at all times.

There is a bag limit of 2 salmon and 6 trout per day per rod. We strongly encourage a 'catch and release' policy for salmon hence the limit of 2 per day. Average annual catches of salmon over the past 10 years has been 103. It is difficult to define which month is best because sport is very dependent on rainfall.

Salmon Fly Fishing Co. Cork - We are situated on The Bandon River which flows through some of the most scenic countryside in the South West of Ireland.

For centuries it has been recognized as one of the best angling locations in County Cork. It is 27 miles from Cork airport, and 6 miles west of the town of Bandon.
Tackle: From the opening of the season up to about the 1st of June a double handed 13ft rod is recommended.

Thereafter a single handed 10' to 11' is adequate. However the tendency in recent years has been to use a single handed rod throughout the season.

Leader strength 10 to 12 lbs. Floating and intermediate lines are the most popular.

Choice of fly pattern is purely ones own preference. We have had salmon caught on flies from all around the world and our conclusion is that it really doesn't matter. However size is critical and the Bandon tends to fish best with small patterns. Size 10 down to 14 are the norm.

We keep a good stock which can be purchased by our guests. For trout, choice is more difficult as there is an over abundance of fly hatches on the river. Generally various Olives, Hawthorn, Black Gnat, and May Fly variants do the trick.

Thigh waders are adequate. Gaffs are strictly forbidden and we advise our guests to ing a good landing net.

We can also hire fishing rods and tackle at a modest charge.

BED & BREAKFAST

The House was originally built by the Lamb family in 1802.  In 1999 it was completely restored and the present owners Angela Tochet and her partner Steve bought it in 2002. It has a total of 22 rooms! and is a typical period house. Quite magnificent.
