Yorkshire Dales Beginners Flyfishing Courses
England, North Yorkshire — Package: 1100905
Package Details and Information:
To get the full enjoyment out of flyfishing for trout and grayling you must have a good grasp of the essential skills. These essential skills include understanding and assembling your tackle, flycasting, presentation, fly fishing techniques, fish behaviour and a knowledge of entomology and artificial flies.
This course is designed to introduce the beginner to the art of flyfishing over 1, 2, or 3 days. It will give you a good solid foundation on to which you can add your own experiences to help you develop into a competent and confident flyfisher. The main emphasis of the course will be flycasting as this is the most important aspect of successful flyfishing. The casts covered will be the roll cast and the overhead cast, leading onto casting (safely) in windy conditions, shooting line, false casting, etc, etc. The course will also cover the knots used in flyfishing and a full explanation of fly fishing tackle, what to buy and what not to buy.
Once casting has been mastered you will then be taught the 'ins and outs' of stillwater fly fishing techniques. This will include dry fly, nymph and lure fishing and an explanation of entomology and the various kinds of artificial flies in use today. Whilst fishing you will also learn how to hook, play and land fish and then how to release or despatch your catch.
The 2 day course will cover casting in far more detail and will allow further fishing time to hone your skills on stillwater trout.
The 3 day course will be based around river flyfishing on the final day where the target species will be brown trout and grayling. This will first of all allow more time to practice the casts learnt on day 1 and 2 and the chance to learn a few more 'river specific' casts. Fishing time will include fishing the wet fly 'Yorkshire style', and many other methods suitable for the conditions/river. You will also be introduced to the flies used in river flyfishing and their uses.

Location and Fishing Information
Yorkshire Dales Beginners Flyfishing Courses - The Yorkshire Dales are situated in North Yorkshire, in the north of England.
They are Justifiably famous for the outstanding scenery and unspoilt open spaces they offer the visitor.
The surrounding countryside is dominated by limestone in various formations, left behind as a result of the ice age. This limestone raises the PH value of the rivers and lakes in the area making them rich in fly life.
My name is Stuart Minnikin and I am a qualified fly fishing instructor and guide and England International fly fisher.
I will be your instructor for the course which will be held on a small stillwater, well stocked with hard fighting rainbow trout, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. This venue is the perfect place to learn the fine art of fly fishing. It is sheltered from strong winds, has good open banks for casting and has a restaurant on site and pub next door where refreshments can be taken. All tackle will be supplied if required.

"Thank you for such a fantastic day on the River Ure, it exceeded my expectations by a considerable margin!
I won't hesitate to be in touch to arrange another lesson. Thanks again for your company, expertise and not least your patience!"Steve A. ~ United Kingdom "Many thanks for the couple of days instruction last week - I really enjoyed it! As I said at the time, the main thing I wanted to come away with was the feeling that I could get to grips with casting (eventually) and would be able to improve - and you achieved that and more! Thanks again!"
