Flyfishing On The North Tyne

Ideally for the still water angler, we are situated between two of Northumberland's foremost big trout waters, with the hotel being the closest to Kielder water and even closer still are Sweethope Loughs. You are not limited to these two waters though, as several more lie within easy reach and a comprehensive and varied fishing holiday can be set up from the hotel.

Kielder is a huge reservoir covering 2700 acres, set in Europe's biggest man made forest. Offering superb fly and worm fishing it is ideal for beginner to expert and has hosted some of the country's largest competitions such as the England Eliminators and The Jack Charlton cup.

Sweethope Loughs are arguably host to Northumberland's number one game fishery and provide excellent drifting water for loch style enthusiasts. With Rainbows to 30lb the water tends not to be too deep and fish often go like steam trains!

Flyfishing On The North Tyne - The North Tyne is a big picturesque river, which has first class fly-fishing over the majority of its length. Over the past ten years the Tyne has more and more been catching the eye of anglers Europe wide, with ever improving numbers of fish yearly. It has always been regarded as a 'Big Fish' river with the average size salmon being 13lb and fish over 20lb taken on a regular basis. In 2004 there were two fish of 30lb taken from hotel beats....
Why the river has improved is no great mystery and can be put down to three factors, the hatchery at Kielder, phasing out of North Sea drift nets, and extensive improvements carried out by the River authorities.
